Steelworks in Motherwell Are Safe

The recent announcement from TATA Steel, stating its intentions to pull its business from the UK market, cast a cloud of uncertainty over the future of its plants across Scotland. Two such plants affected were the Dalzell and Clydebridge works, which inevitably put jobs at risk.

However there was a collective sigh of relief within the local steel industry as The Scottish Government stepped in and secured the future of the Lanarkshire plants by safeguarding its future. According to The Motherwell Times, The Scottish Government is to buy the Dalzell and Clydebridge works from TATA Steel and sell them on to Liberty House.

Great News for Local Housing Market

Whilst the recent news is no doubt fantastic for Scotland’s iconic steel industry, it’s also a massive relief to home owners in Motherwell. The factory remaining open increases job security / job prospects which only further strengthens and aids the growth of the local property market.

With news like this and the economy generally beginning to improve, the local housing market is moving from strength to strength, with Clyde Property Hamilton Agents noting a real demand for housing in the area, particularly for three and four bedroom homes.

Sales Already Up from 2015

Since the 1st of January 2016, Clyde Property Hamilton branch has sold 59 homes, that’s 50% more properties this quarter than in the 4th quarter of 2015. In that time, we have also listed 65 new properties, with the market showing no signs of slowing down.

Sale prices are steadily tracking upwards, with our average house prices holding at £167,000. Yet there is also a notable growth in the demand for more homes priced between £185,000 and £250,000. With these figures in mind, we expect to continue to drive average selling prices upwards in the months ahead, ultimately achieving greater profits for our customers.

But it’s not just sales that are up; our viewing levels have seen a notable rise, with an 11% increase on the same period from last year. We believe this is down to a combination of favourable lending conditions with still low interest rates, and the relatively attractive house prices, which have yet to reach pre-2008 levels.
